According to a study by computer scientists from Columbia University and the French National Institute, 59% of those who forward articles never actually read them first. “People are more willing to share an article than read it,” says Arnaud Legout, co-author of the study.  What they’re really doing is sharing headlines that either they strongly agree with – or they despise and want their friends to agree too.

This delightful little factoid is from Glenn Harlan Reynold’s The Social Media Upheaval.

Be sure to forward this.

Because of this book, which is filled with fascinating facts about how social media and the InterWebs have changed us, I’ve committed to try to not to forward anything (or post it) unless I have, in fact, read it first. You should commit to the same.
